Pulse Wave Propagation in the Arterial Tree
نویسندگان
چکیده
The beating heart creates blood pressure and flow pulsations that propagate as waves through the arterial tree that are reflected at transitions in arterial geometry and elasticity. Waves carry information about the matter in which they propagate. Therefore, modeling of arterial wave propagation extends our knowledge about the functioning of the cardiovascular system and provides a means to diagnose disorders and predict the outcome of medical interventions. In this reviewwe focus on the physical andmathematicalmodeling of pulse wave propagation, based on general fluid dynamical principles. In addition we present potential applications in cardiovascular research and clinical practice. Models of shortand long-term adaptation of the arterial system and methods that deal with uncertainties in personalized model parameters and boundary conditions are briefly discussed, as they are believed to be major topics for further study and will boost the significance of arterial pulse wave modeling even more.

Metallography Investigation of Thermal Wave Control by Magneto-Static Field
In this paper we have studied the effect of magneto-static field onpropagation of thermal wave generated in metal by pulsed laser. In fact this interactiongenerate acoustic wave in different mechanisms. However, always the commonmechanism in the interactions of laser pulse and metal is the thermo-elastic wavegeneration. Applying the suitable magneto-static field on the s...

An approximation technique is considered for computing transmission and reflection coefficients for propagation of an elastic pulse through a planar slab of finite width. The propagation of elastic pulse through a planar slab is derived from first principles using straightforward time-dependent method. The paper ends with calculations of enhancement factor for the elastic plane wave and it is s...
متن کاملUncertainty quantification of inflow boundary condition and proximal arterial stiffness-coupled effect on pulse wave propagation in a vascular network.
This work aims at quantifying the effect of inherent uncertainties from cardiac output on the sensitivity of a human compliant arterial network response based on stochastic simulations of a reduced-order pulse wave propagation model. A simple pulsatile output form is used to reproduce the most relevant cardiac features with a minimum number of parameters associated with left ventricle dynamics....

Background: Dementia is a common health problem in the elderly. Studies have shown that levels of pulse wave velocity (PWV) could predict cognitive impairment. The objective of this study was assessment of the relationship between arterial stiffness levels and cognitive status among the older people. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 individuals included 31 women and 29 men aged ≥ 60 ...
متن کاملImpendant method for determining the reduction of hydraulic resistance in large arterial vessels with permafle walls
During the contraction of the heart from the heart along the walls of the blood vessels, a wave of pressure propagates, which is called a pulse wave. As the wave moves away from the heart, this wave gradually weakens and practically fades in the capillaries. The speed of the pulse wave propagation depends on many factors, among which, for example, the elastic-viscous properties of the vessel wa...
